Since 1925, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) was the Philippines' only phone carrier. With the passage of the National Telecommunications Act of 1995, the Philippine National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) granted licenses to new and independent companies to install new phones across the Philippines. The NTC granted 3 new licenses for Metro Manila. * Bayantel/ Benpres - Northern Metro Manila o Quezon City o Northern Caloocan City o Malabon City o Navotas o Valenzuela City o Marikina City o Pasig City (Ortigas Center) o Northeastern Manila * Globelines/ Innove - Southern Metro Manila o Makati City o Mandaluyong City o Muntinlupa City o Pasay City o Las Piñas City o Parañaque City o Taguig City o Pasig City (excludes Ortigas Center) o Pateros o San Juan * Eastern Telecoms - Western Metro Manila o Manila (excludes Northeastern part) o Southern Caloocan City
